On Thursday, 27 November 2014, the Vojvodina Assembly building was the venue of the presentation of results of the Advancement of Services for Women Experiencing Violence in the AP of Vojvodina project.

From December 2013 to December 2014, the project was implemented by the Women’s Support Center from Kikinda, in cooperation with SOS Vojvodina Network member organizations and supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Serbia. The aim of the project was to raise the capacities of women’s organizations members of the SOS Vojvodina Network by implementing various activities aimed at developing the existing and establishing new services in towns and municipalities these organizations are working in.

The SOS Vojvodina Network includes six women’s NGOs operating in Vojvodina and providing specialized support to women experiencing violence by means of a helpline or by providing other kinds of support to them. Besides the Women’s Support Center from Kikinda, these organizations are the following: …IZ KRUGA – VOJVODINA from Novi Sad, SOS Women’s Center from Novi Sad, Women’s Alternative from Sombor, Novi Bečej Roma Association – A Helpline in National Minority Languages from Novi Bečej and Zrenjanin Education Center from Zrenjanin.

At the event, Đurđa Ćazić from the SOS Women’s Center and Ivana Nikolić from …IZ KRUGA -VOJVODINA presented the results of an action study concerning the satisfaction of women experiencing violence in their partnership with the services and activities of the police and welfare centers in Novi Sad.

Deputy Provincial Secretary for Economy, Employment and Gender Equality Balint Juhas pointed to the significance of the work the SOS Network was doing, because domestic violence was rarely an isolated case and it had already lasted from one to five years before it was reported to the Welfare Center for the first time. Meanwhile, the Network offers emotional support and understanding to women victims of violence, enabling them to acquire knowledge and get information on their rights and best ways of their implementation.
