The representatives of …IZ KRUGA – VOJVODINA, Svjetlana Timotic and Veronika Mitro, took part in the 23rd Wave Conference of the European Network against Violence against Women (WAVE) on 6-7 October 2021.
The 2021. online WAVE Conference Breaking the Cycle: Preventing and Tackling Sexualized Violence against Women and Children offered participants a holistic and intersectional approach on preventing and tackling sexualized violence. Throughout this two-day conference, participants had the chance to attend panel discussions and workshops where discussions and mutual learning was encouraged.
The events provided attendees with more in-depth knowledge on promising and inclusive practices in providing women’s specialist support including services for survivors of sexualized violence and effective approaches in tackling digital sexualized violence against women and children.
In addition to participating in panels, the representatives of …IZ KRUGA – VOJVODINA took part in two workshops.
In the first workshop, The active role of women with disabilities in combating violence, several activists from across Europe reported on their experiences in preventing violence and supporting survivors with disabilities true to disability rights slogan Nothing about us without us. Workshop participants discussed what can be done to make women’s specialized services more inclusive and accessible to women with different types of disabilities and how to build alliances between the feminist and the disability rights movements.
In the second workshop, Sexualized violence: a holistic approach (through the lens of the Convention on Torture, child custody proceedings and digital violence), the experience of the Portuguese judiciary police in violence investigation of digital sexual crime was highlighted as well as the importance of characterizing gender-based violence and particularly domestic violence, as a form of torture within article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, enshrining the absolute prohibition of torture.
