The representative of IZ KRUGA VOJVODINA, Miladinka Mijatovic, participated in the focus group for the development of the Handbook on the political participation of young people with disabilities, organized by OSCE Mission to Serbia and the National Youth Council of Serbia (KOMS). The Focus group took place in the rooms of the OSCE Mission in Belgrade on November 14, 2022.
OSCE Mission developed the general framework of the mentor program Political participation of young people with disabilities for social inclusion of young with disabilities, while National Youth Council (KOMS) will be a part of the implementation in Serbia. The program aims to promote active civil and political engagement of young with disabilities in countries OSCE members by improving their knowledge, skills and networking.
The following addressed the focus at the beginning Augusta Featherston, the counselor for human rights and prevention of discrimination, OSCE Mission to Serbia; Yulia Netesova, Chief of the Democratic Governance and Gender Unit, OSCE office for democratic institutions and human rights and Miljana Pejic, general secretary of the National Youth Council of Serbia.
The work on the Handbook enables young people with disabilities, a group often underrepresented in decision-making processes, to get involved in shaping the political agenda and thus become more open to social participation.
The focus group was attended by representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities and young people who work to improve the position of persons with disabilities and advocate for the rights and political participation of persons with disabilities.
Mirela Rajkovic served as the moderator of the focus group.
