Laura Pejak and Lenka Aralica from the Center for Social Advancement talked with the executive director of IZ KRUGA VOJVODINA, Svjetlana Timotic, and a program manager and editor of the Disability Portal, Veronika Mitro, on November 7, 2023.
The representatives of the Center for Social Advancement said that the young organization was registered in June 2023. It gathers young activists who want to develop policies based on social justice and feminism and achieve systemic changes. At the moment, the Center implements the project Analyzes of possibilities and recommendations for sexual education with the support of the Reconstruction Women’s Fund. They are interested in activities aimed at multiple discriminated groups done so far, because they wish to include perspectives of these groups in their work on sexual education.
Veronika Mitro and Svjetlana Timotic presented the work thus far of IZ KRUGA VOJVODINA in the sexual and reproductive rights and rights of women with disabilities domain – educational activities for students, experts working in health protection and women with disabilities, advocating activities for the betterment of accessibility of services and institutions for the protection from violence against women with disabilities and advocating activities for introducing a module about the sexuality of women with disabilities in higher educational program.
The meeting participants discussed previous initiatives for establishing sexual education in Serbia, the region, and the world. The conclusion is that it is significant to learn from other people’s experiences, and mapping actors and cooperation with allies is the key moment.
