The representatives of the Organization IZ KRUGA VOJVODINA, Svjetlana Timotic and Ivana Zelic, held a seminar Advancement of Knowledge and Skills of Specialized NGOs for Working via Digital Communication Channels for Women with Disabilities organized by Mreza SOS Vojvodina in Novi Sad on March 14. and 15, 2022.
Representatives of women’s nongovernment organizations with experience in working with women who experienced violence attended the seminary: Victimology Society of Serbia (Belgrade), Center for Support of Women (Kikinda), Women’s Association Pescanik (Krusevac), Center for Girls (Nis), Roma Women’s Association Osvit (Nis), Educational Center Zrenjanin (Zrenjanin), Roma Association – SOS Helpline in Minority Languages (Novi Becej), Women’s Center (Uzice) and the representative of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN WOMEN).
The participants of the seminar become acquainted with specific forms of violence against women with disabilities, guidelines for dealing with women with disabilities who have experienced violence, accessibility of violence protection services and opportunities to improve them using a mobile application accessible to women with various disabilities. Instructions in the audio format that makes using the application easier are made for blind women. The participants believe that it is important to establish cooperation with organizations for persons with disabilities in their cities in order to make information about the app and services provided by the women’s nongovernment organizations accessible to women with disabilities. There is also a need to work on informing the organizations for blind people about the accessibility of the app and about making the materials accessible to women with different types of disabilities.
The seminar was realized within the project Women’s NGO – pioneers in defining tools to stop violence against women in Serbia, which is implemented with the financial support of the European Union within the program Stopping Violence against Women in the Western Balkans and Turkey: Application of norms, change of consciousness done by UN WOMEN.
